PMI NETTRAC Software: Wireless Network History Forensics Tool
Preventative Measures Investigations (PMI) has developed PMI NETTRAC, a lightweight and portable forensic tool designed to capture and document wireless network history from Windows-based systems. This software was created for law enforcement, government agencies, and investigative professionals who require accurate, fast, and secure access to Wi-Fi history during digital forensic operations.
What PMI NETTRAC Does
PMI NETTRAC allows investigators to identify and export a record of all wireless networks a computer has connected to. The tool retrieves saved Wi-Fi profiles, captures profile creation and last connected times, and exports these details into multiple formats including TXT, CSV, HTML, and EVTX. The ability to identify when and where a system last connected to a wireless network can be a critical element in building timelines, verifying alibis, or uncovering hidden activities during investigations.
Key Features
PMI NETTRAC includes the following features:
•Enumeration of all saved Wi-Fi SSIDs and profiles
•Export of profile metadata such as Date Created and Date Last Connected
•Extraction of Microsoft Windows WLAN Reports including full connection history
•Collection of WLAN AutoConfig event logs in EVTX format for deeper forensic review
•Snapshot of current network adapter and driver details
•Automatic organization of results into a timestamped evidence folder
How It Works
PMI NETTRAC is designed for ease of use in the field. Investigators can copy the utility to a write protected USB device and deploy it directly on a target system. Once executed, NETTRAC automatically collects saved network data, extracts registry information, and copies Windows WLAN connectivity reports. The results are stored in a case specific folder
labeled with the computer name and timestamp. This design ensures both forensic soundness and clear chain of custody.
Benefits for Investigators
The ability to quickly identify where and when a system has been online provides powerful intelligence. In cases involving fraud, trafficking, cybercrime, or location based investigations, wireless history can reveal important details about a suspect’s movements or habits. By producing court admissible logs, NETTRAC helps investigators present findings with confidence and clarity.
Compliance and Legal Use
PMI NETTRAC was built in alignment with SWGDE and NIST SP 800-86 recommendations for digital forensics tools. It is intended strictly for authorized use under valid consent agreements, search warrants, or within agency Standard Operating Procedures. Unauthorized use is prohibited.
